Hot Tips for Graphic Arts Pros

Here's a tip for Quark Xpress users who are tired of not being able to see what they're doing because of Quark's notorious 8 bit preview:

We Quark users are all pretty accustomed to this: that nasty, bitmappy preview. Some companies sell a Quark Xtension that gives you a 24 bit preview in Quark. If you've got Photoshop, you don't need no stinkin' Xtension (which only works when the picture box containing the image is selected)! Please note: Results will be more dramatic on a high res monitor – you are looking at an optimized JPEG of a screen shot.

When you save a Photoshop EPS, the preview default option, Macintosh (8 bits/pixel) is showing. Pull down on this menu for more options!

Select the Macintosh (JPEG) Preview option instead. This does NOTHING to the actual information in your image. It just generates a JPEG preview which simulates the high res preview you get in Photoshop. Leave Binary encoding on and don't check any of the other boxes. You'll have a much cleaner preview in Quark and you'll be able to execute your layouts with greater precision.

Of course, if you were working in Adobe InDesign, you could change your preview on the fly, and even place native Photoshop files. Contact us to learn more!
